Shake Shack is an American fast casual restaurant chain focused on burgers, hot dogs, french fries, and their namesake milkshakes. According to Wikipedia, Shake Shack Inc. has more than 249 locations worldwide. In this article we list every vegan option at Shake Shack restaurants in 2022.
Shake Shack doesn’t post ingredients on their website, but they do post an allergen guide. All of the items listed in this article are based on the information provided in the allergen guide and other vegan resources.
French Fries
As far as we can tell, the French Fries at Shake Shack are vegan friendly! According to the Shake Shack website, some locations use a shared fryer for cooking their chicken so if this is a concern for you then the fries should be avoided.
Veggie Shack*
In April 2018, Shake Shack introduced their “Veggie Shack” at select locations across the United States. A full list of locations selling the Veggie Shack can be found here.
As listed on the menu, the Veggie Shack comes with a patty made of black beans, brown rice, and roasted beets. The burger is topped with provolone cheese, lettuce, tomato, onions, pickles and vegan mustard mayo. Unfortunately, the bun contains dairy so it has to be replaced with a gluten-free bun or lettuce wrap and the cheese needs to be removed to make the Veggie Shack vegan-friendly.
Shake Shack also has a vegetarian-friendly ‘Shroom Burger on their menu which consists of a cheese-stuffed portobello mushroom patty that’s breaded and deep-fried, but it cannot be made vegan-friendly.
Beverages
In addition to their vegan french fries and Veggie Shack, Shake Shack also serves many vegan-friendly drinks. These typically include Coke products and Red Wine, but each location may vary.
Summary
That’s it for the vegan options at Shake Shack! If you live near a Shake Shack location that serves the “Veggie Shack” then you’re in luck because you’ll have some solid vegan options. If not, hopefully Shake Shack will decide to add their Veggie Shack to all locations in the near future. If you liked this article, take a look at at our other “Eating Out” vegan guides here
