Taco Time is an American fast food resturant chain specializing in Mexican Food. It was founded in 1960 by Ron Fraedrick in Eugene, Oregon and now has over 300 locations in the United States and Canada. In this article we breakdown all of the vegan options at Taco Time in 2022.
All of the ingredients listed in this article were verified to be vegan with Taco Time’s allergen guide and an email exchange with a Taco Time representative. Taco Time’s response is below.
Taco Time's Customer Service Feedback
While researching Taco Time’s menu items for this article it became very apparent that most of the options are not vegan-friendly because they included cheese or milk-based ingredients. If you look at the Allergen Guide, you will see almost every item is labeled as having a milk allergen. However, it we were unsure if their products would be vegan if the cheese or sour cream was removed upon ordering. To clarify this, we reached out to the Taco Time customer service team. The following is their response.
Hello Braden,
Thank you for contacting TacoTime. Please use this information only as a guide when making menu choice decisions. The Flour tortillas are dairy free. Rice and Beans contain dairy. Any Veggie option are vegan as well as the mexi fries (not stuffed). We hope you find this additional information helpful.Sincerely,TacoTime Customer Service
However, Veg Knowledge reader Perry further verified with Taco Time regarding the dairy in their rice and beans. This was the response that Perry received:
Hello,
Thank you for contacting TacoTime. Our beans do not contain dairy, however when served they are generally topped with cheese. You can order them without any added cheese. When the rice is prepared, stores have an option of using either butter or shortening to fry it before moving on in the cooking process. We recommend you check with your local store to see what method they are using to prepare their rice. We do hope this helps in regards to making future choices with TacoTime.
Sincerely,
TacoTime Customer Service
Since the rice and beans at Taco Time are typically served non-vegan they have been excluded from this article. However, please check with your local Taco Time location to verify if the beans and rice can be served vegan. This will greatly expand your options at Taco Time. Nonetheless, we break down all of the vegan options at Taco Time in the following sections.
Mexi-Fries
The Mexi-Fries at Taco Time are vegan! These crispy potato gems are just Tater Tots with a fancy name, but they are one of the only items on the Taco Time menu that are vegan as listed. However, their “Stuffed Mexi-Fries” are not vegan as they contain cheese inside them.
Create-Your-Own Taco/Burrito
While a create-your-own taco or burrito is not on the Taco Time menu, most stores will accommodate the request. Use the following ingredient lists to create your veganized Taco Time options.
Taco Shells and Tortillas
Start your create-your-own option with either a taco shell or a flour tortilla (White or Wheat). All of them are vegan friendly. However, the Tortilla Salad Bowl is not vegan so steer clear of that option.
Toppings
Next up, load your taco shell or tortilla up with any of the following vegan toppings:
- Banana Peppers
- Black Olives
- Cherry Peppers
- Cilantro
- Guacamole
- Lemon Wedge
- Lime Wedge
- Onions
- Pepperoncini
- Pickled Jalapenos
- Sunflower Seeds
- Tortilla Chips
Sauces and Salsas
Based on Taco Time’s allergen guide, all of their hot sauces and salsas are vegan-friendly. The following is a list of sauces available at the time of this writing. Choose your favorites to finish off your custom burrito or taco creation.
- 5 Alarm Hot Sauce
- BBQ Sauce
- Enchilada Sauce
- Hot Sauce
- Ketchup
- Picante Sauce
- Salsa Fresca
- Salsa Nuevo
- Salsa Verde
Chips & Salsa
As mentioned above, both Taco Time’s Tortilla Chips and Salsas are vegan-friendly. Therefore, order a side of chips and salsa to go along with your custom taco or burrito.
Summary
Those are really the only vegan-friendly options at Taco Time. If their beans and rice were vegan-friendly then the options would be much greater, but until that happens we are stuck with these limited options.
